In this study published in the latest issue of the Revista de Psicología Clínica con Niños y Adolescentes, the relationship between burnout, optimism, and resilience in young Mexican athletes is investigated.
Methodology:
- A total of 268 athletes participated (48.7% female; mean age = 13.3; SD = 1.04).
- They completed questionnaires on burnout, optimism, and resilience.
- Correlation and multiple regression analysis were used to explore the interrelationships between these variables.
Key Findings:
- Burnout was negatively associated with optimism and resilience.
- Optimism and resilience were protective factors against burnout.
- Females showed higher levels of burnout and lower levels of resilience compared to males, while there were no significant gender differences in optimism.
Conclusions: Optimism and resilience are key factors in reducing burnout in young athletes. Interventions should focus on strengthening these qualities to promote psychological well-being and athletic performance.
