As part of the qualitative study within the EMO-CHILD project, researchers from the team gathered in Madrid with adolescents aged 12 to 16. The focus group aimed to examine young people’s perception of mental health in their age group: what issues they detect, how they assess the response of the educational and healthcare system, and how they explain current phenomena such as self-harming behaviors, bullying, or suicide attempts. The group of adolescents was selected from the educational community of IES Miguel Delibes in Torrejón de la Calzada (Madrid). Thanks to the participation of these young individuals representing a sample of what occurs and is perceived during adolescence, data can be collected to complement the epidemiological study of EMO-CHILD and provide explanations and proposals to enhance mental health care for children and adolescents.
